We're children of a fighting race, That never yet has known disgrace, And as we march, the foe to face, We'll chant a soldier's song Chorus Sons of the Gael! Men of the Pale! The long watched day is breaking; The serried ranks of Inisfail Shall set the Tyrant quaking. Our camp fires now are burning low; See in the east a silv'ry glow, Out yonder waits the Saxon foe, So chant a soldier's song.

Political Structure:
Ireland has a republic government, which consists of a judicial, legislative and executive branch. The judicial branch generally consists of the Supreme court. The legislative branch consists of the bicameral parliament which includes the senate. The Senate consists of 60 seats, and each member serves a 5-year term. The house of representatives, however, consists of 166 seats and members are elected by popular vote on the base proportional representation to serve 5-year terms. The executive branch ,on the other hand, consists of the chief of state: president Mary Mcaleese (since November 11th 1997).
The head of government: Prime minister Bertie Ahern (since June 26th 1997)
Cabinet: appointed by the president with previous nomination by the prime minister’s approval of the house of representatives.
The capital of Ireland is Dublin, and this country earned its independence from The united kingdom on December 6th 1921. They used a treaty to gain their independence. A national holiday which is greatly celebrated is St. Patrick's day, which is on March 17 of every year. The constitution was adopted on July 1St. 1937. Their legal system is based on the English common law, substantially modified by indigenous concepts.
Natural resources:
This country is rich with many sources to keep its economy going. Some of them are: zinc ,lead, and natural gas. Other resources are copper ,gypsum, limestone, dolomite, peat and silver. Land usage is also efficient, arable land makes up 19.49% of the land. Permanent crops, however, make less than one percent, which is 0.04%. The rest of the land is used for other things.
Fish is a big factor in Ireland, because of its position on the sea. The same as England and France. Wild deer and other animals also used to roam this great land , and have been hunted in earlier times. However, other things made these great creatures to disappear, which is the coming of humans. The development of towns and cities have made these animals disappear. Animals such as the beaver, bear, wolf, wildcat and native cattle. Small rodents and birds are still available and the fern, grass, rushes and serges that represent its plant population.
Geography:
Ireland is a country in Western Europe. It has a total land measurement of 70,280 sq. km, 1,390 sq. km of which is water and 68,890 sq. km of land. It has a land boundary with the United Kingdom, which is 360 km long. It also has a coastline of 1,448 km. The elevation extremes are: lowest point is on the Atlantic ocean with an altitude of 0m. The highest point is on Carrauntoohil at an altitude of 1,041 m.
The climate is a temperate maritime one, which is modified by the North Atlantic current. It usually has mild winters , cool summers and is consistently humid. The Terrain is mostly level to rolling interior plains surrounded by rugged hills and low mountains. Sea cliffs are found on the west coast, which is more deserted than the East.
Cultural Factors:
Ireland’s population , when it was counted During July 2002 , was 3,883,159 people and it continues to grow at a rate of 1.07% per year. The ethnic groups that occupy this great land are mainly Celtic and English. The religions that are widely available are Roman catholic:91.6% ,Church of Ireland 2.5%, and other: 5.9%. As for The language, English is the language that’s generally used, however, Irish (Gaelic) is also spoken , but mainly in the areas located along the Western seaboard.
Defense:
Like all countries in the world ( except maybe Switzerland) Ireland has an army. The army mainly is there to control situations that arise between the people inside the Country, and if they’re not doing that, they are defending their country against intruders and other dangers.
The Irish army consists of people from the ages of 15 to 49 years. The active military forces of Ireland—army, navy, and air force—totaled 10,460 members in 2001. There is no compulsory military service in Ireland; all of the forces are volunteers. Irish troops have served with United Nations (UN) forces in various places around the world, including the Middle East, Africa, and Cyprus.
Other than this, the Irish defense forces consist of the Permanent Defense force, which consists of the Army, the naval service and the air corps. The second part is the Reserve defense force, which consists of the Army and the Naval reserve.
Ireland is also part of many alliances, none of them military, however. It has been a strong supporter of the UN. and has been one ever since 1955. Ireland is also a member of a wide array of other international organizations, including the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the Council of Europe. However, unlike most western European states, Ireland is not a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Economy:
There are many types of industries in this country. Some of which include food processing, beverages, engineering, computer equipment, textiles and clothing, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and construction. Trade includes the exports of many of the items stated and add to that, meat , dairy products and machinery. The import ,however, is another thing. It imports grains ,petroleum products, machinery, transport equipment, chemicals, textile yarns.
The major suppliers of Ireland are the European Union 54%, ( United Kingdom 54%, Germany 6% and France 5%), the United states supplies it with 18%, and Singapore with 4%. Trade between the United States and Ireland have greatly increased in the recent years and The United States have found Ireland to be a really attractive country for manufacturing products for the European Union market, since it is in the European Union customs area.
Views on world problems:
Ireland has not had any recent wars with any countries. Its isolation from the world plays a big part in this field. It has very close relations with the United Kingdom which keeps it safe from their attack, the same goes with the United States. As I stated before, Ireland is a strong supporter of the United Nations, and has been an active participant since 1955. It's also part of the organization for economic cooperation and development and the council of Europe.
Ireland’s relation with its European neighbors have become increasingly important as a result of its membership in the European union (EU).Ireland also has special relationships with the United States and Australia , where people of Irish decent are numerous.
History:
Irelands’ recent history (1916 onward) is basically marked with three eras. The first period , which lasted for about 7 years , was a time of rebellion. It was the time of civil war, Ireland was under fire, everything was a mess, people didn’t know enemy from friend. It was truly the time of the Partition of Ireland, families were torn apart because of simple disagreements on who supports and who doesn’t.
Then came the treaty for the independence of Ireland. This treaty recognized Northern Ireland as a part of the United Kingdom. This treaty, however, was deeply divisive and had a profound influence on the country’s political and cultural life for the years to come.
The second era is one of great isolation. It was the long era of internal closure that ensued after Irelands’ independence. Marked by isolationism, protectionist economic policies, and cultural nationalism, this inward-looking period lasted until the 1950s. The third era, that Ireland went through was the period of economic expansion. This happened right after the 1950s. Ireland emerged as an outward-looking and markedly more prosperous country during this time.

Issue A: Global Warming
The rising of water levels have become a world threat throughout the past few years and is increasing as the years progress. However, some people are getting affected by this more than others, and some people are taking a step towards this problem, while others just let nature take its course of action. This is not just affecting some countries where the factors are clearly visible, but is affecting the world as a whole, that’s why the whole world must pitch in, in order to lessen the effects of global warming.
Ireland has been aware of the effects of global warming and has been greatly affected by it. It has constructed the whale and dolphin group in order to protect the numerous whales and dolphins that have been dying on the coasts of Ireland. They are trying to put a stop to this tragedy, but cannot stop it alone. They need the help of all the countries. The warm water "syndrome" has to be solved soon otherwise many things are going to be missing just like the dolphins and whales.
Issue B: SARS
SARS!!! The disease that has been spreading like fire in a barren field. The threat to the world. Many cases were found all over the world and are greatly increasing and spreading. However , news has been going around that the amount of people getting infected is dropping in all the countries except in China, where it is currently rising. No, cure has been brought up yet , but the world is waiting for one
Ireland has not been infected with SARS, so no quarantines have been administered in the country. However, precautions must be taken, and that’s what Ireland is doing. It is trying to prevent the spreading of SARS, by letting people aware of the symptoms of SARS. It is also closely watching the people who enter the country, so that the disease will not be transmitted in.
C. Giving of Food During Wartime
Food and water are the most vital things to humans. In times of war these things are very scarce and hard to find. The United nations and the world in general , are trying to secure sources of food and water to different nations in times of war and need.
Ireland as a part of the united nations has tried with all its strength , to help the poor nations. This message , however, is not clearly understood by the world. The increase in food produce is not the answer. So far the UN has no power to enforce the responding of other nations to this food problem. This is a huge world problem , that is increasing as the days go by, and no one can do anything about it, so it still remains at stake.
D. A Nuclear Free Zone in the Middle East
The question of making a nuclear free zone in the middle east has probably crossed everyone’s mind. Especially after the recent events. Nuclear power in this part of the world , is a threat to everyone living on this earth. The ways to stop the nuclear power are numerous, but still haven’t totally worked.
Ireland, as a part of the united nations, participated in action, as to let Israel sign a treaty about its nuclear weapons. It has called upon Israel to place all its nuclear weapons under agency safeguards. Even though it is not in close contact with the middle east, they have still cared to make the world a safer place to live in. It is also done to further help the peace process which is already underway in The middle east.
E. Guaranteeing Human Rights and Ending Suffering in Cuba
Guaranteeing human rights has been one of the hardest tasks to do. No matter how much you try to bring human rights and alleviate the problems arising in different countries, they are bound to come back again.
The European court of human rights and the European council have been an active part of defending human rights. These two organizations include Ireland as a member. Ireland shares the views of the other European countries about this issue. These views are basically based on, whoever is vulnerable-sick and dying people should have the right to get treated in a good way and not in an inhuman or degrading way.
Resolution
Forum: General Assembly
Delegation of Ireland
Delegate: Hissa Al-Sabah
Question: of rising water levels due to the effects of global warming
Defining Global warming , as a rise in the Earth’s average surface temperature due to different chemicals being diffused in the air,
Bearing in mind that this warming has altered the climate in many parts of the world and is becoming more effective each year,
Pointing out that global warming has changed patterns of rainfall and temperatures which will endanger the water supplies of some urban area and make some agricultural land unproductive such as:
A)In the 1980’s, weather records from around the World indicated a warming trend, as a result of the greenhouse effect and the threat of global warming came to be widely recognized as a serious international problem,
B)The rise of sea levels and change in precipitation and other local climate conditions, water may rise to about 1 ft by the year 2050 ( United states Environmental protection agency),
C)The change in regional climate could alter forests, crop yields and water supplies.(US. EPA),
D)The warming in temperature may also greatly affect human health, animals, and many types of ecosystems,
E)The negative impact that global warming has on the ozone layer, which is being depleted by it,
Noting that according to the US. FPA Global warming has effected all the nations, and is a serious international problem,
Bringing to attention that, according to hotearth.net, the concentration of carbon dioxide has increased more than 30% since 1750 AD.,
Noting with deep concern that according to the national resources defense council, because emissions of heat-trapping gasses are expected to increase, scientists predict temperatures to rise dramatically over the next century , resulting to serious harm to life on our planet,
1) Resolves the formation of an International Environmental Association (IEA) that would be run Internationally, with at least one main office in each country, Each country will have 4 representatives, who will meet up at a different place each time, and their meetings will be scheduled for every three months ( basically after every season) to accomplish:
A. Checking that the situation is under control in each country,
B. Helping a country decrease it’s use of harmful chemicals,
C. Issuing warnings to people , who use an extensive amount of chemicals,
D. Checking the rising of water levels each year,
E. Thinking of different ways to reduce the greenhouse effect
F. Participating in the closing of the hole in the Ozone layer;
2) Confirms that the IEA will fine any country that has exceeded the amount of harmful chemicals being let into the air
A. Any country with many factories and biological or chemical weapons ( that are being used or made)
B. Any country that does not recycle
C. Any country that dumps it’s garbage and sewage in the natural water bodies
D. Any country that burns rain forests;
3) Affirms that the IEA will require all the countries to sign a contract which will allow each country to use it’s factories and chemicals under the careful attention of the IEA, this treaty will include
A. Amount of chemicals allowed to be used per year,
B. Amount of fossil fuels allowed to be burned each year,
C. Amount of trees that are allowed to be cut down each year,
D. Amount of recycled objects that are recycled each year;
4) Resolves that any case of treaty or rule breaking done by a certain country or organization will be directly sent down to the ICJ ( International Court of Justice) to be trailed and heard, and the ICJ will determine the fate of this country;
5) Further Resolves that each country will be monitored by it’s special agents and will have different records and registrations in the organization in the main headquarters , with a copy of the documents in the office of the country itself;
6) Affirms that this office will be the country’s guide to freedom, whatever it wants to do will be carefully considered and listed in the country’s permanent record. The records and actions of each country will be sighted by it own agent, and any deliberate mistake will have painful consequences;
7) Confirms that any nation that will violate the rules set by the IEA will be :
A. Banned from the right to use any chemicals or burn any oils
B. Entered into a country's permanent record,
C. Painfully punished,
D. Considered as a possible result for suspension of the Country from this treaty
8) Authorizes that the IEA will have at least one office in each country , with four agents working in each office, so that every country of the world will be a part of this organization and will be aware of the harmful effects of burning chemicals and fossil fuels, so that every nation will get it’s equal amount of share in the participation to save the world.
9) Requests the cooperation of all the nations of the world in considering the greatly harmful effects of global warming.
Opening Speech
Good morning to you , from the land of the leprechauns and four leaf clovers. Where the color of green is everywhere to be seen, and the smell of the wet grass never fades away. Where daffodils blossom throughout the towns and clean air is abundant. Of course none of this compares to the rich taste of the original Guiness! So hold your glasses up and Cheers for Ireland.
But what if there wasn’t a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, or if the four leaf clover brought you bad luck instead of good? What would you celebrate then. This beautiful nation has been under civil destruction for many years. Many people lost their lives in their own towns, while going on a shopping spree. Then yet again, families torn apart because of slight opinion clashes. Snipers of the same race killing each other because they hold different ideas or beliefs. People living in endless fear, a fear that will not fade , unless the ideas do. What next? What will happen after this? Will the Irish people ever be able to reach an agreement that satisfies both sides?
